36V 275A DC Series Motor Controller — Replaces Curtis 1204-027

This aftermarket replacement DC motor controller is for 36-volt golf carts with a series-wound motor that use a Curtis 1204-027 type controller. It is rated 275 amps and takes a 0–5 kΩ potentiometer throttle input. A failing controller often shows up as no movement, jerky acceleration, cutting out under load, or a very hot controller.

Installation — difficulty: advanced (about 1–2 hours)

1. Put the Tow/Run switch in TOW (if your cart has one) and disconnect the main negative battery cable.
2. Take clear photos of every cable and wire on the old controller and label them.
3. Disconnect the cables and wires, then unbolt the old controller.
4. Mount the new controller in the same place and reconnect everything exactly as in your photos.
5. Reconnect the battery, lift the drive wheels off the ground and test forward and reverse slowly before driving.
6. If you are not comfortable doing this job, have a golf cart mechanic install it.
