Identify Your Golf Cart: Find the Model and Year in 2 Minutes
Your cart’s model and year are printed on its serial number label. On a Club Car it’s below the passenger-side cup holder or above the pedals. On an EZGO TXT it’s inside the passenger-side glove box. On a Yamaha it’s usually under the seat or in the driver-side glove box. The code on the label tells you the model and, on most carts, the model year.
Club Car: DS, Precedent, Tempo, Onward and Carryall
Where is the serial number?
- On a bar code decal below the passenger-side cup holder
- Or above the accelerator or brake pedal
How to read it
Example: PH0901-123456. The letters at the start (PH) are the model code. The next four digits are the model year and production week — 09 is the 2009 model year. The six digits after the dash are the unit number.
DS, Precedent or a newer model?
| Model | Years | How to recognize it | Parts |
|---|---|---|---|
| DS | Early 1980s to early 2010s | Square front body with a small black bumper at the bottom center of the front | DS parts |
| Precedent | 2004 and newer | Rounded front body; the black lower front bumper wraps around the cart | Precedent parts |
| Tempo, Onward | Late 2010s and newer | Newer body style; the model name is on the cart | Tempo / Onward parts |
| Carryall | Utility vehicle | Cargo bed at the back instead of a bag rack | Carryall parts |
EZGO: TXT, RXV, Medalist and Marathon
Where is the serial number?
| Model | Years | Serial number label |
|---|---|---|
| TXT | 1996 and newer | Inside the passenger-side glove box |
| RXV | 2008 and newer | Three labels: on the steering column, on the frame under the front splash shield (driver side) and on the rear passenger-side frame rail |
| Medalist | 1994–1995 | Inside the passenger-side glove box |
| Marathon | 1976–1993 | Under the passenger-side glove box |
How to read it
Next to the serial number you’ll find the manufacture date code. On carts built from 1979 on, the last two digits of that code are the model year — a code ending in 99 is a 1999 model. Newer carts also show the model name (TXT, RXV or Freedom) on the side panel below the armrest.
Yamaha: G-series, Drive (G29) and Drive2
Where is the serial number?
- G14 and G16: under the driver’s seat, toward the front of the cart (on some carts, in the driver-side glove box)
- G19: in the driver-side glove box, or on the frame under the rear bumper
- G22: in the driver-side glove box
- Drive (G29) and Drive2: under the seat where the floorboard meets the motor compartment, on the frame under the rear bumper, or in the driver-side glove box
How to read it
Yamaha calls the serial number the PID. Its first three characters identify the model:
| Model | Years | PID starts with |
|---|---|---|
| G2 | 1985–1991 | Gas: J38, J55 · Electric: J41, J56 |
| G8 | 1990–1994 | Gas: JF2 · Electric: JF3 |
| G9 | 1991–1995 | Gas: JG5 · Electric: JH7, JG6 |
| G14 | 1995–1996 | Gas: JN3 · Electric: JN4 |
| G16 | 1996–2002 | Gas: JN6 · Electric: JN8 |
| G20 (Concierge) | 2000–2002 | Gas: JR8 |
| G22 | 2003–2007 | Gas: JU0 · Electric: JU2 |
| Drive (G29) | 2007–2016 | Gas: JW1, JW8, JC2 · Electric: JW2, JW9 |
| Drive2 | 2017 and newer | J0A, J0B, J0C or J0J on 2017–2018 carts; later years use other codes |
Other models (G1, G5, G11, G19, G21 and utility cars) use other codes. Send us the code on WhatsApp and we’ll look it up.
Still not sure? Send us a photo
Send a photo of the serial number label — and of the old part, if you have it — on WhatsApp (+1 (213) 551-9059), or email it to sales@golfcartpartsoutlet.com. We’ll tell you which part fits before you order.
Common questions
Is the model year the same as the year I bought my cart?
Not always. Carts are often sold the year after they were built, and used carts change hands many times. Go by the code on the serial number label.
The label is missing or I can’t read it. What now?
Check the other places listed for your brand — some carts have more than one label. If none is readable, send us photos on WhatsApp of the front, the side and the seat area of the cart, and we’ll help you identify it.
Does gas or electric matter when I order parts?
Often, yes. Electrical parts such as solenoids, controllers and charging parts differ between gas and electric carts, while many steering, suspension and brake parts fit both. Every part on our site lists which carts it fits.
