Steering Gear Assembly for Club Car Precedent — Replaces OEM 102288601

This aftermarket replacement steering gear links the steering column to the tie rods on Club Car Precedent golf carts. It replaces Club Car OEM 102288601, listed in the Precedent manuals as "STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY". Too much free play, clunks when turning, stiff or notchy steering, or a cart that wanders are common signs of a worn steering gear.

Installation — difficulty: advanced (about 1.5–2 hours)

1. Gas carts: remove the key and disconnect the battery negative cable. Electric carts: put the Tow/Run switch in TOW and disconnect the main negative battery cable.
2. Lift the front of the cart, support it on jack stands, and set the front wheels straight ahead.
3. Mark the tie rod and steering shaft connections, then disconnect them from the old gear.
4. Unbolt the old gear and fit the new one in the same position with the original hardware.
5. Reconnect the shaft and tie rods, have the alignment checked, and test the steering at low speed.
6. If you are not comfortable with this job, a golf cart mechanic can fit it for you.
