Steering Universal Joint (Intermediate Shaft) for Club Car DS & Carryall — Replaces OEM 1013861

This aftermarket replacement steering universal joint links the steering column to the steering gear. Club Car lists OEM 1013861 as "JOINT, COMPOUND STEERING (INCLUDES ITEMS 2 AND 3)" in the Steering Column section; the 2008 Carryall manual lists it under Intermediate Steering Shaft. Free play or a clunk in the steering wheel, a notchy feel when turning, or rust and slop at the joint are common signs it is worn.

Installation — difficulty: moderate (about 1–1.5 hours)

1. Gas carts: remove the key and disconnect the battery negative cable. Electric carts: put the Tow/Run switch in TOW and disconnect the main negative battery cable.
2. Lift the front of the cart and support it on jack stands.
3. Point the wheels straight ahead and mark the joint position on both shafts.
4. Loosen the clamp bolts and slide the old joint off.
5. Fit the new joint in the marked position and tighten the clamp bolts securely.
6. Lower the cart and check the steering is centered and turns lock to lock. A mechanic can do this if you prefer.
