This is a complete aftermarket replacement steering gear box, the rack and pinion unit that turns steering-wheel movement into side-to-side movement of the tie rods. EZGO lists OEM 70964G01 (70964-G01) as "RACK AND PINION UNIT (COMPLETE)" in the front suspension and steering section. Too much play in the steering wheel, a clunk or grinding when turning, or steering that binds or feels notchy are signs the gear box is worn.

Installation — difficulty: advanced (about 2–3 hours)

1. Gas carts: remove the key and disconnect the battery negative cable. Electric carts: put the Tow/Run switch in TOW and disconnect the main negative battery cable.
2. Lift the front of the cart, support it on jack stands and remove the front wheels.
3. Mark the positions, then disconnect the tie rod ends from the spindles and the steering shaft from the gear box.
4. Unbolt the old gear box and fit the new one in the same position.
5. Reconnect the steering shaft and tie rods, refit the wheels and lower the cart.
6. Have the toe alignment set before driving. If you are not comfortable with steering work, a mechanic can do it.
